The Stonelaw Practice

Registration

Every UK citizen for his or her own health's sake should be registered with a general medical practitioner (GP). Registration allows you to access your GP of choice for GMS (General Medical Services.) If you are not registered with a local GP accessing GMS may be a problem.

The provision of medical services to Overseas Visitors to the United Kingdom may be subject to a fee charge for services provided.  Within Greater Glasgow & Clyde NHS Board, this will be the fee for a consultation plus the cost of the medicines that may be prescribed.  Whether a charge is made for medical treatment in the UK is dictated by the Government Document NHSiS Manual of Guidance for overseas Visitors and will depend on your country of origin, your nationality, your reason for being in the UK and the nature of the condition being treated.  The Public Health Division of the Scottish Executive Health Department (SEHD) has lead responsibility for matters relating to entitlement or otherwise to NHS services.

A full copy of the manual can be found at:  www.scotland.gov.uk/library/documents-w/guide-00.htm
