General Practice Services

General Medical Services

All accepted NHS Primary Care Services are provided by all the partners to all registered patients. General Medical Services are offered via a team approach and patients can access Practice Nurses, Health Visitors and District Nurses as well as The Doctors .

Access to the GP's and Practice Nurses is by appointment only. See Appointments.

New Patient Medical Checks

When you register as a new patient, you will be invited to attend our Practice Nurse for a brief medical  examination. This lets us meet you and gather medical information from you.  We will offer you a check of your height, weight, blood pressure and urine and offer you advice about immunisations and other ways to keep healthy.

All the GP's provide family planning services, including prescribing of oral contraception, ("The Pill" and "The Mini Pill").  Our Practice Nurses can also see patients for any necessary reviews  of their contraception.

Intrauterine Devices and Implanon

Drs Colville, McDougall & Macaulay also offer fitting of intra uterine contraceptive devices ("The Coil").   Drs McDougall & Macaulay also fit and remove Implanon.

Emergency Contraception

GPs and Practice Nurses will prescribe emergency contraception, please explain that you need to see a GP or Nurse as soon as possible when you make your appointment, as this treatment is most effective when taken early.

Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT)

GPs can give advice and also prescribe Hormone Replacement Therapy.  Practice Nurses can also see women for follow up of this and give general advice.

Patients will receive their results through the post, usually between 4 & 8 weeks after the procedure.

Well Person Checks

Our Practice Nurses can see people for well person checks and give people advice on how to stay healthy.

All the GP's are qualified and equipped to perform minor surgical procedures. This can range from removal of warts and verrucas to excision of small lumps and bumps. GPs may also refer patients on to Secondary Care Services located within the Health Centre, such as, Dietectic Service, Spirometry, Psychiatry and the Maternity Care Centre.

Non NHS Work

In general, NHS general practitioners may not charge their NHS patients for medical services, but there are some circumstances, where work is not covered under a GPs NHS Contract, in which doctors may charge fees to their NHS patients or a third party.  These fees are reviewed annually by British Medical Council on the advice of the Association's Professional Fees Committee.

Some examples of this work are:   Private sick note, Private Prescriptions, Accident/Insurance Certificate, International Vaccination Certificate, Holiday Insurance Certificates. Passport Applications, etc., (n.b. this list is not exhaustive).  If you require any further information regarding the full range of services offered or fees for these services, please speak to the Senior Admin Team or the Practice Manager.
